Welcome!

Welcome to my creative writing blog! My ability to write is a gift from God that I want to use to bring light to the lives of other people. The purpose of this blog is to allow not only family and friends but also the world to experience my writing and to experience the sublimity of the creative process. I'll be sharing essays, fiction, and poetry, works in progress and the best of what I have to share. Feel free to comment if you have feedback. I will be posting 1-2 times a week depending on what I've produced. I look forward to sharing with you!

Northern Warriors--A Novel in Progress

This is my novel/summer project/last three years' heartthrob and headache.

ORIGINS:
Some people have asked me in recent weeks where I came up with the idea for this story. Well, it happened like this:
One day in my sixth grade (or maybe seventh grade) study hall I was bored and I wanted to come up with a story. So I took a blank sheet of notebook paper and started jotting down ideas for this novel. I outlined the book but later discarded the idea. Every so often after that initial brainstorming, I returned to Northern Warriors as a project of interest, and made it bigger and better. The spring of my senior year of high school, I was bored in class and started writing out chapters from random novels I have planned for the future. I decided my creative energies would be best spent on writing Northern Warriors, since it was supposed to be the introduction to the magical world I had created for my future readers. I wrote out the first four chapters by hand, then had to stop because I came down with a sinus infection that plauged me for almost the rest of the school year. But it was a welcome break, because it gave me the chance to read Fablehaven and start The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the summer, when I recovered, I began typing chapter 5 on my laptop. Then I started college. That slowed me down quite a bit. I got to about chapter 14 last fall and then the laptop I was using crashed and I lost the files. But my crisis served as time for reflection, and I decided that I should rewrite the story in the future. I began my current draft at the end of April 2012. I plan to have it finished in a year's time. I want to finish this draft in order to measure my completion skills as a writer, and then go back and revise for publication.

DUST JACKET SUMMARY:

On a dark and stormy night, a ship crewed by talking animals, The Blue Swan, wrecks outside the home of Brittany Stevens' babysitter (but actually I am considering making her an aunt, to make it a little more plausible). The strangers are en route to rescue the invaded island kingdom of Revunia, and they ask Brittany to join them. For Brittany, it is an opportunity to venture where few mortals have gone before, filled with excitement, danger, and wonder at a strange new world of magic. She makes friends in high and low places on board and proves her worth as a member of the crew. Meanwhile in Revunia, the goblins are seeking to destroy the surviving members of the Royal family and their faithful band of followers. The evil fairy Lord Televokov will stop at nothing until Revunia is completely under his control. Princess Alexia searches for her destiny as a hero that will stand up to the goblins, but she will need Brittany's help in order to lead her people to freedom...
